Blue & Brown Courageous Twins

I few years back I had just taken my daily watch in to get a new battery and the person on the shop broke the watch. The watch was only about three years old and I was, displeased, to say the least. I was given a Citizen basic dive watch, which I loved as it never needed a battery. So my search was on for a new watch. I found this Signature Collection Courageous Blue and ordered it from a local watch dealership. Once it came, the shop set the time and date for me along with the size, needed to remove a link or two. I love the size and the function of the perpetual calendar. Now if I live in an area that did not have time changes for daylight savings, I would never have to set this watch again as long as it was charged in the light. It keeps great time and though I am not a diver, it will take my diving down past 50 feet very easily as it is rated to 30 bar or 999 feet. I liked it so much, that I purchased a second one with a brown face to go with the blue one that I wear with more casual clothing. They have been both great watches and I have since added a Marvel Collection watch to the other three. My Twins Courageous are by far my most wore watches and I get them cleaned about once a year and then shine like they did when they were brand new out of the boxes. All in all, a great pair of watches for every day or nice occasions as well.

The very best Citizen has to offer

I'm a huge Citizen fan and have owned dozens of them through the years. This is the one I've been looking for without even knowing it. I still have several Citizens in rotation, but this is the one I could be happy with if I had to get rid of every other watch in my collection. Maybe my view is only my view, but I've never seen a better looking watch in my life. It has a great weight to it. Not too heavy, but certainly not light. A lot of people gauge the value of a watch by its weight (which I find to be false) so they naturally think a mechanical watch is superior simply because the movements weigh so much. Well, if that is what they think, then they won't find anything wrong with this one. It has just great heft and wears easily without feeling like a ball and chain at the end of the day. I've never worn a more comfortable watch. The best part about this watch is the way the crystal is just invisible. Most of my watches, even those with anti reflective coatings on the sapphire, still have quite a bit of glare and reflection on the dial and crystal. Because of the faceted dial, there is zero glare or reflection when you look at this watch at any angle. In fact, you have to get it at quite an extreme angle before you can get it to glare at all. That makes this the absolute perfect timepiece if you ask me. I never have to adjust the angle of my wrist to remove glare like I do with every other watch I own. I love the screwed pins in the bracelet. That is such a better way of doing it than with friction pins or the pin and collars that brands like this typically use. Sizing it is a piece of cake and it always looks nice when you put it back together. The case back is well done and really classy looking. I know nobody ever sees that, but it is a nice touch. They could have just done a polished case back and put light engraving on it, but this is just really well done. The bezel is a 120 click bezel and that is perfect. It turns easily and I can imagine it would be easy to adjust with dive gloves on if you were to dive with it. I use the bezel on a regular basis to time things, so functionality is important to me there. This watch has functionality in spades. I'm not a diver, but I'd guess that 99% of the people wearing dive watches are in the same boat as I am. It's a style I love and I love the functionality of the bezel for every day tasks. However with that being said, I do like that this has a 300m water resistance. If I ever were to dive, then this is the watch I'd do it with. I've got more confidence that this would remain water tight with this kind of rating than I am with my 200m watches. Even though nobody dives that deep, it is a nice bit of engineering to get a watch rated at that, so I appreciate it. I don't think this was meant to be a real dive watch though. If it was then it would have had a diver extension clasp and probably a double lock on the clasp. This is more of a dress watch than a tool watch, but that works fine for me. Someone wanting to dive with it may not like the clasp, but I find that it is perfect for what I wear the watch for. I'm land locked and I work on the 24th floor of an office building, so diver extensions are kind of useless for me anyway. The watch has great lume and it stays lit for a very long time. Lume is absolutely a gimmick in the age of cell phones and digital clocks, but I do like to see it glowing when I walk into a dark room after being outside. It is gorgeous. The only thing I would have added to this to make it more premium would have been drilled lugs. I don't have any Citizens with drilled lugs, so I don't look at it as a miss on their part. It is useful for getting the bracelet off without scratching anything up, but on this watch I never plan on wearing it on anything but the gorgeous factory bracelet. I have the black dial version that I wear on a leather strap that looks amazing, but on the blue dial it looks best on the steel bracelet. Bottom line is that this is an example of the best you will find from Citizen. The only negative things I've ever read about this watch is from guys with 6" wrists saying it is too big. No, the watch isn't too big. Your wrist is too small. This watch is perfect for anyone with a 7" wrist or larger. Mine are about 7.5" and it is the perfect size for me. It has spoiled me for all other watches, to be honest. I can't even think of a luxury watch that I like the looks of better than this one. It gets more wrist time than my Breitling or my Omega and I think I could seriously live with just this watch and no other. If you are looking for 'that one watch' that you will wear forever and never want to take it off, then this is the piece. Search high and low for it. The blue dial is the most impressive, but the black is really nice too. There is also a grey version and a brown version and a two tone version that I have seen. There may be others, but seriously, the blue one is the most impressive. You won't regret owning this watch.
