I've been waiting for a watch like this to come out as I love diver watches, but many of them are rather heavy and can cause fatigue on my wrist after long periods of time. I was excited when the watch became available, so I ordered one through a local jeweler. When the watch arrived, I immediately noticed how rough the rotating bezel felt when I turned it. It felt as though parts were grinding inside the bezel. I rejected this watch as defective and had the jeweler order another. The second one arrived a week later and although it was slightly better, it still had the same grinding problem when the bezel is slowly turned. The bezel ratcheting mechanism works poorly and feels like it was either incorrectly assembled or poorly designed. I asked for my deposit back and walked away in disgust and disappointment. The grinding, poorly functioning bezel really bugged me. This is not the level of quality I would expect from Citizen. I already own seven other Citizen Eco Drive watches, including some diver watches and two of the non-divers are titanium. This Promaster titanium diver watch does not come close to meeting my expectations of quality, especially at this price point. I hope Citizen addresses this issue with this watch as it seems like a nice watch otherwise.
Citizen Response
I have been searching for a great dive watch that was quartz. I wanted a traditional diver like an SKX, but in quartz. I have too many automatic watches and wanted something I could just pick up an go with. VERY happy with this watch, its super lightweight, very sold , and looks very classic. The quality is here for sure, the second hands lines up perfectly with the tick marks, the bezel aligns dead center, all around fit & finish is excellent. I am very pleased. There should be more pics on the Citizen website, the ones here don't do the watch justice.
Absolutely love this watch. I just wish we could get one with a sapphire crystal. If it had a sapphire crystal it would be a 5 star watch. The sapphire crystals last so much longer than the mineral ones I am not sure why all "better" watches don't include them at least as an option.
Perfect! Just got mine as a replacement for my old Citizen Noblia 12 Meter watch. Love it. Watch is light and looks great. Workmanship is first rate. Bezel feels smooth and I love the idea that the watch doesn't have to be opened every year to replace a battery.
I've been looking for a lightweight water-resistant watch with great lume, and this is the best alternative I've found. It also "made me a metal-bracelet person". Even though I though I would put it on a rubber or nato, I am still 1 month in and using it on the bracelet. I too have had some problems with the bezel, but it seems to have worn in because I haven't experienced it in the last couple of week. The bezel action was unsatisfactory quite often the first two weeks or so. I don't know if it stopping is random or if it is because it has worn in a bit. It would be nice with a saphire glass at this pricepoint. I would also like it better if the diameter was 2 mm smaller as well. 44.5 barely works for me. Luckily it does, because this watch has a unique set of features. There really aren't many competitors that are lightweight solar quartz divers. Movement is as far as I can tell very good. Mine is heading for less than -10s/y after the first month. The bracelet is great too. It feels very solid and is comfortableyet still very light weight. I indeed reccomend this piece.
This is nice watch. Titanium was a major reason I bought it, because I never had one, and my Ulysse Nardin Maxi Marine Diver is steel, and heavy. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is a bracelet clasp which has additional security thing, that is frequently snapped off by simple contact with clothes. I'd prefer not to have it, as I've never had problem with Ulysse's clasp, which don't have that additional security part.
Got this watch for Christmas from my wife, opened it Christmas Day and immediately noticed that the bezel hour markers and watch face markers did not line up. The bezel rotation was very sloppy and loose, and no matter how many times I rotated to try and line up marks it did not work. Approximately 1/16” slop in bezel movement before clicking to next location on dial. The secondary locking clasp was also defective and would not stay locked as on side did not line up correctly with the pin meant to hold it. Beautiful watch besides the poor controls already pointed out. Now I get to wait for a refund, who knows how long that is going to take since it took several days to receive a reply email with return labels from citizen. Overall very unhappy with purchasing directly from citizen, and will no longer trust them to send a properly functioning product out.
Ive been wearing this watch on and off for the last three months and I must say... I am very pleased with the overall fit and finish. I purchased this as a lightweight casual option and was not disappointed. Some reviews state some slop in the bezel but I must say mine functions perfectly and smoothly. Highly recommend!
My wife gave this to me for Christmas. Is a true Diveer's watch. Titanium makes it quite lite. Classic look can be worn casual or dressed up. As up for diving as for a fancy cocktail party. One way rotating bezel makes timing dives or anything else a snap. Luminosity hands and hour markers glow all night long. Never change the battery as it is solar. I love Citazen watches. No fuss, they just work. Great build quality. My other Citazin a Dive Strap has been on dozens of dives in the years I've had it.
Great quality, fit, finish. Very light weight. Crisp face.
