Citizen Watch Company is recognized as a worldwide leader in advanced wristwatch technology. From the world’s slimmest LCD watch to the first voice recognition watch and the world’s first professional dive watch with an electronic depth sensor, Citizen’s reputation for innovation is unmatched.

Perhaps the best known Citizen technology is Eco-Drive – the simple, yet revolutionary concept of a watch that never needs a battery. Citizen Eco-Drive harnesses the power of light – from any natural or artificial light source – and converts it into energy which is stored in a permanently rechargeable lithium-ion cell. It recharges continuously in any kind of light to run forever.

Eco-Drive has been a growing part of the Citizen collection since 1995, and today more than 80% of Citizen watches sold in Ireland feature Eco-Drive technology. In 2012, Citizen passed the milestone of 40 million Eco-Drive watches sold worldwide.

In November 2012, Citizen presents its latest technological breakthrough: Eco-Drive Proximity.

This timepiece is loaded with all of the features you would expect from the Retail Jeweller Watch Brand of the Year: a perpetual calendar, 60 minute chronograph, 12/24 hour indicator, second time zone, and an Eco-Drive power reserve indicator. Being water resistant to 100 metres ensures it can really be put through its paces. However matching these features with new Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy sync gives the watch some high-tech clout, making it stand out from the crowd and proving particularly appealing to Apple fans.

The watch has an accompanying iPhone App, which allows you to connect Proximity to your iPhone 4s or to the new iPhone 5 using Bluetooth 4.0. Activating the Automatic Date and Time Synchronisation feature ensures that no matter how often you change time zones, the watch adjusts accordingly through its connection with your phone.

If you’ve ever lost your iPhone, you’ll understand that sinking feeling of having to retrace your steps to find it. With Proximity’s “iPhone Search” feature however, you would simply press a button on your watch to trigger your iPhone’s ringtone so that you can be reunited with it – even if the iPhone is set to silent mode. Furthermore, should you forget your phone and walk away from it, Proximity will discretely vibrate on your wrist to alert you that the Bluetooth connection is broken.

Waiting for an important email but have to attend a meeting? You can stay close to your inbox with Proximity. Your watch will quietly alert you using the same discrete vibration, with the second hand automatically sweeping to point at various indicators on the dial ring so you can see whether you have an incoming call, email or calendar alert.

With Proximity, Eco-Drive reliability and Bluetooth 4.0 features make for a truly unstoppable combination.
