National Merit Scholarship

CITIZEN is proud to introduce a new scholarship program to support academic achievement throughout the country. The company will present a cash award to a student in each of the 50 states based on the student’s academic accomplishment under the auspices of National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

These new awards, named the National Merit Citizen Eco-Drive Scholarships, will be given to high school students graduating with the class of 2013. Along with achieving excellent academic records, there is a preference for student recipients who were also members of their high school sponsored sports teams. As part of Citizen’s international media ad campaign, Unstoppable, which attributes to the continual drive and success of certain athletic individuals, CITIZEN is proud to award this scholarship to select students to fuel that unstoppable passion within them – the drive to succeed.

In addition to receiving this prestigious cash scholarship, each student will be awarded with a CITIZEN timepiece and have their name featured in a national ad created by CITIZEN in the Wall Street Journal.

Internships within Citizen Watch Company of America will also be offered to the winners.

2012 US Open - Day 13

In the world of sports, athletes and timekeepers share a lot in common. That is why Citizen Watch Company proudly celebrates its 21st year as the Official Timekeeper of the US Open Tennis Championships. Every year, the first two weeks in September are reserved for the US Open Tennis Championships. This is the season-ending Grand Slam event in men’s and women’s professional tennis; it is the highest profile tennis tournament of the year. With court-side clocks tracking match time and stadium scoreboards to display match results, CITIZEN plays an integral role every year at the US Open Tennis Championships, and CITIZEN match time displays have recorded the match time of some of the longest Grand Slam matches in history.

We are also proud to be the official sponsor of Arthur Ashe Kid’s Day, as well as the Exclusive Timekeeper and Official Sponsor of the Western and Southern Open, and the New Haven Open at Yale.

Citizen Eco-Drive has created two new timepieces for the 2013 US Open.

The tennis-themed watches are emblazoned with the official USTA logo and feature tennis racquet-inspired textural elements on both the dial and the bezel. One watch features red and blue accents on the dial and has a blue canvas strap with red and white stitching, and the other features grey and blue accents on the dial with a red canvas strap with blue and white stitching. Both feature Citizen’s unstoppable Eco-Drive light-powered technology. They are crafted of stainless steel with 42 mm cases and retail for $149.00. They are available for purchase on the Citizen Watch Company website; www.citizenwatch.com., on the grounds of the US Open in Flushing Meadows, New York; at USTAShop.com; at select Macy’s locations and on macys.com, and also at Amazon.com.

In conjunction with the release of this limited series watch a donation has been made to USTA Serves, whose mission is to support, monitor, and promote programs that enhance the lives of at-risk children and individuals with disabilities through the integration of tennis and education.
