The 1970s was one of the most horologically fertile decades of the 20th century. Fun and funky designs abounded, with interesting case shapes, colorful dials, and integrated bracelets all making their way onto the scene. Citizen’s wares from this period are some of our most compelling, as this vintage Cosmo Star V2 will attest.
Measuring 25mm in a stainless steel “C”-shaped case with a brushed bezel; an unsigned crown; and an acrylic crystal, it features a striking lavender-blue dial with an outer open minute track in white; luminous, applied indices; a luminous ‘sword’ handset; and a framed date window at 3 o’clock. Paired to the watch is a handsome stainless steel mesh bracelet with an unsigned clasp.
Flip the Cosmo Star V2 over, and one is greeted with a screw-down caseback featuring the watch’s reference and serial numbers. Inside, a hand-wound Citizen movement with 21 jewels and a beat rate of 28,800 vph keeps excellent time. Finally, this beautiful ladies’ piece is in NOS condition — shipping with its price tag and inner box, it’s a lovely time capsule from a highly creative era in watchmaking.
