With a history dating back over a century, Citizen has a large catalog of compelling vintage models worthy of your attention. This year, we’re teaming up with the vintage and pre-owned watch specialists at Analog:Shift in New York City to curate a capsule collection of pieces for the discerning collector.

In addition to its more conventional round-cased divers and creative ‘Bullhead’ chronographs, Citizen also experimented with avant-garde everyday designs whose uniquely shaped cases and folded-link bracelets make them a pleasure to wear today.

The relatively compact ref. 6N-5-S is one such design. Dating to the 1970s/1980s, it features a 38mm stainless steel case in a cool hexagonal shape with a vertically brushed top and a thick, polished smooth bezel. (A signed crown is nearly hidden by the case’s flank, but can easily be accessed for winding or time-setting.) Beneath an acrylic crystal is a handsome matte-black dial with an octagonal-shaped outer minute track and applied cardinal indices — within this, a luminous ‘baton’ handset and a handy day-date display at 3 o’clock complete the picture of a funky ‘70s classic.

Powered by the Miyota Calibre 8200, an automatic, 21-jewel movement with a beat rate of 21,600 vph and a 45-hour power reserve, the ref. 6N-5-S comes paired to a brushed stainless steel H-link bracelet that terminates in a signed fold-over clasp and features a screw-down caseback inscribed with the watch’s reference and serial numbers. With its daring case shape, handsome dial, and top-notch construction, it’s the perfect addition to a diverse watch collection.
